BURKINA AZZA
In Burkina Faso, like all over Western Africa, the musical tradition is carried on by griots that, in their turn, get their songs via lineage teaching – from father to son. These songs are not only entertaining but also didactic passing ancient knowledge on to the future generations. Thus, Burkina Azza is a band consisting of brothers from the Koita family that for generations has been the most known balaphone players in their country. In addition to the afore mentioned instrument, they play also winds and percussions and even dance. Their performance conveys all the colors, rhythms and mystical feelings from the heart of Africa.
To counterbalance the percussion fireworks, the songs that through the same lineage have come to us from times immemorial give a more lyrical nuance to the otherwise almost supernaturally powerful performance and allow the audience to take a glimpse into the rich and glorious history of the Black Continent.
